[лат. terminare — ограничивать]1) нуклеотидная последовательность ДНК, расположенная после кодирующей области про- и эукариотических генов, которая служит сигналом остановки транскрипции, осуществляемой РНКполимеразой. У бактерий в качестве Т.п. служит ГЦ-богатый участок, обладающий центральной симметрией, вслед за которым располагается нуклеотидная последовательность, состоящая из нескольких (4—8 п.н.) остатков А в матричной цепи; иногда в этом процессе участвует фактор терминации ρ. У эукариот для каждого из трех видов РНК-полимераз существуют свои специальные Т.п. и факторы терминации транскрипции;2) терминирующий кодон (см. стоп-кодон) и нуклеотидная последовательность, расположенная вокруг него в мРНК, которые выполняют роль сигнала для окончания трансляции мРНК на рибосомах.см. также терминацияТолковый биотехнологический словарь.
